UK Registered Charity No.1127562. Uganda NGO LDLG/11/2030

Debbie Paterson had been supporting One-Step-At-A-Time for several years, when she came upon the idea of a new project to help vulnerable children in Lira. Although in its early days, Debbie has had a huge response and is now looking for your help to further the cause.

Debbie has been collecting oddments of wool, knitted and crocheted squares of 15cm (6 inches) that people have stored in drawers and cupboards that would otherwise not have been used and has been sewing them together to send as blankets to the children in Lira, Uganda.

To date (May) Debbie has been able send a total of 13 blankets of varying sizes and colours in any style; knitted or crocheted to Lira which have all been received with the utmost of thanks and appreciation and have gone to improving the children’s lives.

So, how can you help?

Are you a knitter? Crocheter? If you have any balls of wool, any type or colour or would like to knit or crochet your own squares, in any style, then Debbie would love to hear from you. Perhaps you could help to sew all of the squares together?

Either way, please contact Debbie now at her email address -

Debbie is passionate about her idea, so much so, that she is paying personally for the postage of the blankets to Uganda, so please help in any way you can.

if you are in the Northamptonshire area, we are starting to have "coffee mornings" to get everyone together - maybe you've not knitted for a while and would like a refresher - or maybe pop in to collect some donated wool.
